Brendan Loughnane has a come a long way since sparring with neighbours in his backyard in South Manchester. Known for his speed, power, tenacity and raw talent, he is now one of the most highly respected fighters in the country; a reputation that’s growing quickly worldwide. One of his regular sparring partners is now the one and only Dominick Cruz – a fighter whom many will know as “The Dominator” from MMA kingpin promotion The Ultimate Fighting Championship.
Unlike fighters who move from other disciplines into Mixed Martial Arts, Brendan was shaped specifically for MMA from the beginning. He found himself tagging along with his next-door neighbour to MMA training as a teenager, and hosted sparring sessions in his garden to improve his technique. He became increasingly involved in the sport as time went on, rejecting a future as a mechanical engineer in favour of following a professional fight career. It’s a decision he’s never regretted.
After years training under the watchful eyes of coaches Anthony Mousah and Danny Ramm, Brendan developed quickly as an MMA fighter, and gained national recognition when he took part in UFC-powered reality TV programme The Ultimate Fighter: The Smashes in 2012. After getting a first glimpse of the big time, he proceeded to rack up a series of thunderous victories at events like Full Contact Contender and BAMMA. Brendan has lost just twice in a near decade long career, and both of these split-decision defeats were subject to much scrutiny and controversy by fans and fellow professionals.
Brendan is a passionate, ambitious and experienced fighter with much of his career still ahead of him. He lives and breathes the MMA lifestyle, enjoying every moment and taking each fight as it comes. His laidback demeanour and genuine love for MMA make him a pleasure to be around, and we are honoured to have him as an MMA fighter under the care of Tanko Management. He is another fabulous ambassador for the sport and demonstrates the attitude of a champion every day.
